Public involvement within SMC
The SMC has three public partners who are volunteer members of the public working as part of SMC Public Involvement team. They are also full voting members of the SMC committee. Their role is to help ensure that the views of patients, carers and members of the public are taken into account during all SMC decision making processes.
Each public partner has a variety of responsibilities, including:
- Reading SMC committee papers in advance of attending monthly SMC meetings in order to be able to make an informed decision as a voting member of SMC.
- Participating in Patient and Clinician Engagement (PACE) meetings to help ensure that patient and carer perspectives are fully explored and discussed during the PACE meeting and that the views of the expert advisors in attendance are appropriately reflected in the resulting PACE documentation.
SMC committee meetings are open for members of the public to observe. If you would like to come along to a meeting you can register here.
More information about patient groups and what is required in their submissions is available in the Patient Group Partners section.
