The Scottish Medicines Consortium (SMC) recognise that not all specialty areas can be represented on the New Drugs Committee or even SMC. To ensure that we engage with appropriate clinical experts we have established a multidisciplinary network comprised of: consultant physicians, surgeons, senior specialist pharmacists, general practitioners and other relevant experts. These experts have all been nominated by Area Drug and Therapeutic Committees, acting on behalf of NHS Boards.
You can view a flow diagram outlining the process for consulting with clinical experts.
Clinical experts are sent this list of generic questions to request advice regarding each drug under assessment.
Clinical experts also play a key role in the Patient and Clinician Engagement (PACE) process.
