Methyl aminolevulinate cream (Metvix) appears to be effective for the treatment of basal cell carcinoma in those patients in whom standard treatment with surgery or cryotherapy is contraindicated. Its use should be restricted to specialist dermatologists and to superficial lesions where penetration is most effective.
